Fifth Graders Launch Year with Creative Brown Bag Project

Posted Date: 10/01/25 (8:24 PM)

Mr. Albert and Mrs. Searles’ fifth-grade students at RSE kicked off the school year with a unique activity designed to build community and celebrate individuality - the Brown Bag Project.

Each student was tasked with transforming an ordinary paper bag into something extraordinary by filling it with three items that represent who they are.

The results were as diverse and creative as the students themselves. From homegrown tomatoes symbolizing a passion for gardening, to jars filled with seashells and treasures from the beach reflecting a love of surfing, to a signed Ranaldo jersey commemorating a once-in-a-lifetime trip, every bag told a personal story.

Through these items, students began to discover not only the unique qualities that define each classmate but also the shared interests that connect them. This blend of individuality and common ground is already helping to shape a welcoming and supportive classroom culture.

The Brown Bag Project is just the beginning. As the year unfolds, students and teachers alike are eager to continue exploring what makes their fifth-grade experience so special ... together.
